Identification
A compact green parakeet with a maroon patch on the forehead, bluish flight feathers, and a short squared tail. Forages in noisy small flocks. Often first detected by call.
Where to see it
Exclusively in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, above 1,800m. El Dorado Reserve is the most reliable site. Morning flights from roost to feeding tree are the best encounter.
Status
Endangered (IUCN). Habitat loss and wildfires have shrunk its range. ProAves-protected reserves are its core refuge.
